Add Group-Based Restrictions

Using groups and release conditions, you can choose to restrict certain materials in your VIULearn course and allow only a specific group of students to be able to see and complete those materials.

Consider adding group based restrictions in the following situations:

  • You have given students a choice between two different assignments that they can complete in the course. Each of these assignments will have its own unique set of instructions. Consider creating a # of groups - self enrolment group category and allow students to choose which assignment they will complete.

Then, upload the different instructions for those assignments to a content module and add a release condition so that students have to be enrolled in a specific group in order to see the instructions for that assignment. This way, they will only see the instructions for the specific assignment that they have chosen to complete.

  • You have a HUB course in VIULearn containing all the students from your program. You would like to make it so that certain resources in the HUB course are only visible to students who are in their 4th year.

You can do so by creating a Group Category containing four different groups (1st year students, 2nd year students, 3rd year students and 4th year students. You can then add a release condition to those resources and make it so that only students who are enrolled in the 4th year students group can see and access those resources.
